The Power of Speaking Out Loud to Reprogram Your Mind and Build New Habits
I used to think that saying affirmations was a bunch of woo-woo stuff for the crazy manifesting people - until I tried it. After years of business coaching and taking a deeper look into my most successful clients. I recognize that they all had this in common. They say the quiet part out loud.

My Journey into Entrepreneurship
I started my first business at 19, over 20 years ago. Back then, I often heard the advice to keep your business plans to yourself. The belief was that if you shared your ideas, someone might steal them and bring them to life before you could.
Observing Successful Entrepreneurs
As I progressed in my career, I noticed a pattern: successful entrepreneurs seemed unaffected by this rule. I was fascinated. How could they confidently discuss their plans while I was told to stay quiet?
Initially, I thought it was mere luck or fate that allowed them to speak so freely. However, my experience in project management and accounting introduced me to individuals with substantial financial resources, all at the planning stages of their projects. It became clear to me that speaking out loud is a key to their success.
The Magic of Project Development
Many people don’t get to witness the project development process, which can seem incredible. I’ve seen ideas evolve from brainstorming sessions, where concepts were scrawled on sticky notes, into fully functioning businesses or impactful nonprofits achieving their goals. This transformation is nothing short of magical.
The Importance of Verbalizing Thoughts
I’ve learned that there are various levels of effectiveness in how we program our minds. Speaking out loud is a powerful tool for reshaping your mindset and building new habits. While many of us rely on internal thoughts to guide our actions, verbalizing those thoughts elevates the mental process.
The Benefits of Speaking Out Loud
When you think silently, your ideas can get lost amid daily distractions. Silent thinking often lacks the power and intention necessary for real change. In contrast, speaking out loud forces you to articulate and clarify your intentions. This act brings your thoughts into the physical world, reinforcing your commitment to action. When you hear yourself speak, it activates different parts of your brain, strengthening the neural pathways that help you form new habits.
For example, if you want to exercise regularly, saying, “I am someone who prioritizes my health and exercises every day” creates accountability. You’re not just thinking it—you’re affirming it. This active reinforcement can be much more effective than merely thinking, "I need to work out more."
The Influence of External Messaging
We are constantly surrounded by messages from social media, advertisements, and conversations with others. These external influences can program our minds just as powerfully as our own words, often without us even realizing it. Repeated messages like "You're not good enough" or "This product will make you happy" can shape our beliefs and behaviors over time.
That’s why it’s vital to be mindful of what we consume and counter negative messages by speaking positive affirmations aloud.
Conclusion: Take Control of Your Mind
In summary, speaking out loud helps create intentional and focused programming for your mind, making it easier to build new habits compared to silent thinking. This is an active process where you control the messaging that influences your behavior. In contrast, external messages often shape us unconsciously, so it's crucial to consciously direct your own thoughts and words. By vocalizing your goals and intentions, you're not just dreaming about change—you’re actively making it happen.
